Can I add some info to why I extra love this?
Usagi was planned to be “overweight.” She was supposed to be a happy-go-lucky chubby girl who loved to eat. Naoko’s design was forced to change by her publisher, saying that chubby girls weren’t appealing: In essence, revise the design or we’ll move on.
Naoko had a lot of heavy-hand feminist agenda on her plate that she wanted to serve out to the youth, positive body image being one of them. But in order to do this she also had to make sacrifices and give into publisher demands — if she hadn’t, Sailor Moon wouldn’t exist at all.
I know that some people understand the complexity and difficulty invovled in ending a relationship, espcially when there is some form of abuse invovled.
What I need the rest of you to try and grasp is that sometimes it’s not as easy as simply blocking a number or never speaking to someone again….
A white student may feel discomfort when it’s pointed out to him how he has benefited from structural racism, but to compare that discomfort to discrimination is a false equivalency. Hurt feelings hurt, but it is not oppression. But hurt feelings can be bad for business. And a lot of powerful people think colleges should act more like businesses. When they do, students act more like customers. And our likely customers might not be amicable to discussions about structural racism. If the customer is always right, then the majority share of customers is more right than the minority.
